The ingredients needed to make Makhana Kheer:
- Get 2 cups milk
- Prepare 1/2 cup makhana
- Take 1 tsp ghee
- Take 3/4 cup sugar
- Take 1/4 cup almonds
- Take 1/4 cup cashews
- Make ready Few strands kesar (optinal)
- Get Some Pistachios
- Get 1/2 tsp. elaichi powder
- Take 1/2 tsp nutmeg (Jaifal) powder
Remove from the flame, allow it to cool and blend in a mixer to a coarse powder. You can serve makhane ki kheer warm or chilled. To serve chilled, let the kheer come to room temperature and then chill into the refrigerator for a few hours and then serve. This makhana kheer is served during vrat days as a dessert after a meal or along with the meal.
Steps to make Makhana Kheer:
- Firstly, In a pan add 1 tsp ghee to it add 1/2 cup of makhana, and roast at a low flame for 10 minutes.
- They should be crispy and should taste raw after roasting.
- Grind the makhana in a mixer only once. Don't crush them to the powder.
- Now in the pan take 2 cups of milk and let the milk come to a boil.
- After boiling, add the ground makhana and mix them well with the milk.
- Let the milk cook for 15-20 minutes on a low flame. Keep stirring occasionally.
- Chop almonds and cashewnuts.
- Now after 15-20 minutes, when milk is cooked and it will be reduced in quantity.
- Now to the milk, add 3/4 cup sugar, chopped almonds, and cashews.
- Now add elaichi powder, grated Jaifal (nutmeg). Also, add a few strands of Kesar(optional).
- Now cook it for 5-6 minutes more.
- Pour kheer into a bowl and garnish it with some pistachios, almonds, cashews, kesar and also some makhana.
- Delicious Makhana Kheer is ready.
To serve chilled, let the kheer come to room temperature and then chill into the refrigerator for a few hours and then serve. This makhana kheer is served during vrat days as a dessert after a meal or along with the meal. You can enjoy it any time of the year, it doesn't have to be fasting days.
